Tik and I just booked our flights to Japan.

We’re leaving Bangkok on April 4th, returning the morning of the 20th.

As we get a lot of Air miles with our credit cards the flights have cost us just 10,000 baht (about $290) in total. Both of us are really excited.

We’re flying in, and leaving from Osaka and plan to spend most of our time around Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.

This week we’ll start using our CouchSurfing connections to hunt down some fun people we can spend some time with and I’ve been downloading documentaries and travel programs about Japan for the last week.

The Posts you Might have Missed January 19, 2009

I’m adding posts to this site that really should have been published last year.

They won’t show up as a recent post, nor in the RSS feed, so here’s a link to them:

Tinglish

Group Weekend in Pattaya

Michael Learns to Rock Concert

Party at our Place

Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Play ‘Music of the Night’

Bjorn Borg and John Mcenroe In Bangkok

My First 10k Fun Run

I’ll go through older articles to add tags to them which should make the site a bit easier to navigate round.

I’m also removing older posts that don’t really add much to the site and I’ve noticed a lot of old photos no longer work. I’ll sort that out over the week.

We decided to host another party last night. Most of us came for dinner at the large Issarn Restaurant round the corner, then it was back to our place for drinks and Wii games.

Attending were:

  • Nolan, Tim and Josh – three American couchsurfers who were staying with us for three nights.

  • Hailey and her Thai friend Roz. Hailey stayed with us a few weeks back and came to see us again beore flying home to Korea.

  • Ying, Masaya and Sophie who we’d not seen since before New Year.

  • Chris and Gai who are about to move out of Bangkok to travel the world together.

  • Our Friend P’A

  • Eric & Yasmin, a couchsurfing couple who’ve just arrived in Bangkok who hopefully we’ll get to spend more time with soon.

  • Quinn, another couchsurfer who we unfortunately couldn’t host this week but we hope might return soon to stay with us.

It was also Tik’s birthday today so it was great being around such fun people.

Although many people were couchsurfers, we’d invited them privately so this wasn’t an official couchsurfing event.

In the future though we’ll issue a few more open invites to other couchsurfers who live or have arrived in Bangkok.

Life Without My Training Bra January 14, 2009

Yesterday I removed my support strap from around my back and neck and I’m able to do pretty much everything I need to to do now.

My collarbone is still quite bruised but I can put pressure on it and move my arms around without it hurting.

I plan to resume jogging tomorrow at the gym and, if all goes to plan I’ll be playing tennis next Monday.

Tik and I were lucky enough to be treated to dinner by our friend Chris and Gai.

We had Italian food at Angelini Restaurant (warning this website plays music and won’t let you turn it off! – stupid designers) in the Shangri-la hotel.

Thanks Chris, and good luck to you both for your coming year of adventures.

Note To Myself: I am not Bruce Lee January 3, 2009

Sometimes I look in the mirror and see a person far more handsome, agile and healthy that I expected. These delusions were abruptly shattered today when I fractured my shoulder broke my collarbone in a diving accident.

Family Holiday in Khao Yai January 2, 2009

Beautiful sunset from our resort

P1030395.JPG

We brought our friend P’A along to Khao Yai for a 3 day holiday with Tik’s family (Por, Mae, N’Toon, N’Mai. We planned to have Chaokuy – the family’s 6 year old puddle but he didn’t come) – note from martin: Tik has a pet ‘poodle’ but her spelling was too cute to correct :)

I love Khao Yai. It’s a HUGE national park, only a few hours by car from Bangkok and is one of my favorite places to visit. It’s full of mountains, lakes, waterfalls, fields and forests.

We stayed in a small resort. Not far from the national park. In fact, so small they only have three small houses. Both nights Tik’s parents slept in the rooms and Tik, Myself and P’A opted for a tent just outside. N’Toon also experienced a night in the tent as well.

Amongst the highlights of the holiday were trips to sunflower fields, visits to inside the national park and a large waterfall there and just spending time with Tik’s family and improving my Thai.

I’ll let Tik edit and update this post over the next week. We still have potentially hundreds of photos to add from Toon’s camera but the current photo collection can be found here.

One of our friend from March bride group tell us about a tiny resort call Banchomdaw . We got a small room and a big plus so cozy tents. I loved the way we woke up to lovely cold and windy air with sound of bird and chicken.

It’s the most relaxing holiday till Martin’s did his morning exercise down hill that morning though. (see more detail in the next post)

New Year 2009 January 1, 2009

We made the most of CouchSurfing this new year and joined up for our first group event.

We were to meet in Charley Brown’s Mexican restaurant on Sukumvit 11. They had a great promotion where, for 1,000 baht we were served a refillable variety of Mexican snacks and could order any drink on the menu except for Corona.

We invited P’A to join us and also one of Tik’s new colleagues Vivek. As we’d not actually eaten all day Tik and I were first to make use of the offer and we arrived about 30 minutes before anybody else.
