Tik and I bought tickets to see Cinderella at Muangthai Ratchadalai Theatre at the Esplanade Shopping Mall.

We chose to buy tickets because our favorite musical singer Lea Salonga carried the lead part. Lea was the original Miss Saigon in London, has played Eponine in Les Miserables, sang the music for Lion king and has the kind of voice that made us pay 2,000 baht per ticket to see her. I had actually said years ago that if Miss Saigon (The musical) ever returned to Asia, I’d fly out to see it, so seeing this, as a compromise, saved me quite a bit of money.

Sadly, the show was pretty naff. Despite the high price and the fact that they banned children under five from attending, this didn’t have much to offer adults. It was pretty much a pantomime and the jokes were lame, the musical score mundane and monotonous.

Our lovely Lea didn’t really manage to save it. That said, we still enjoyed the opportunity to try something different. We did enjoy a few of Lea’s solo numbers and it got us into the Christmas spirit a little bit.

On leaving, we were also informed that the musical of ‘Chicago’ is also coming to Bangkok next February. We rushed to get the best possible tickets we could for the Valentines day Matinee performance. We’re both really looking forward to this, having seen the movie at least four times.
